Workforce Development System Review -- 2009

Governor Gregoire postpones systems review report
On February 1, Governor Gregoire extended the timeline for completion of the final report and recommendations of the current workforce development system review until after Congress reauthorizes the federal Workforce Investment Act. See February 1 Governor Letter.

Earlier, the Governor had extended the timeline to March 31, 2010. See the earlier Governor Letter.

On December 7, the Workforce Board voted to recommend to Governor Gregoire that she extend the due date for recommendations from the Workforce Development System Review from December 15 to March 31, 2010. See Board letter. View comments to Workforce Board.

The comment period for the draft report (also appendix) ended Monday, Dec. 7 at the close of business. Governor Chris Gregoire directed Karen Lee, commissioner of the state's Employment Security Department and Charlie Earl, executive director of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, in consultation with the Workforce Board, to "conduct a review of our workforce development system that builds upon prior efforts for improvement and provide recommendations that will enhance the state's workforce training and services." The review, according to the Governor, should build off the findings in the 2007 Washington Works report.

Meetings held to gather input
A series of meetings were held across the state in October to gather public input about the state's workforce development system. Governor Gregoire asked for the systemwide review in August and tapped the Workforce Board, State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and Employment Security Department to lead the process.
